NEW DIRECTOR APPOINTED AT GROCONTINENTAL

A new director has been appointed by Shropshire-based international third-party logistics provider Grocontinental.

Steve Simmons, who has headed-up the company’s finance team for the last two years, has been promoted to the position of Finance Director.

Steve previously held positions in the south of the country where he worked in a broad range of industries from financial services through to manufacturing.  He held roles with Hampshire-based Touchline Insurance and B & W Loudspeakers of Worthing.

At Grocontinental, he will be responsible for the strategy, compliance and operations of the company’s finance, audit and IT teams. The company recorded a turnover of £23 million in 2009, an increase of 6% over the previous financial year.

Steve studied managerial statistics at Exeter University and qualified as a chartered management accountant in 1996.

Commenting on the new appointment, Grocontinental’s Joint Managing Director David Grocott said:

"Steve’s knowledge, expertise and rounded experience have made a real difference to our business over the last couple of years.  He has played a major role in the financial planning of our recent expansion plans, as well as making major improvements to the day-to day running of our business.
‘He fully deserves his position on the board and we look forward to working closely with him on our business development plans."

Steve Simmons said:

"I am thrilled with my appointment and look forward to joining Grocontinental’s ambitious and progressive board. To be appointed as a director of a company with such a long-standing and significant history in the local community and which continues to grow nationally and internationally, is very rewarding."
